Lexion is developing the APEX (Airbreathing Pulsed EXplosions) engine, a next-generation propulsion system that utilises pulsed detonation events and can dynamically switch between different modes of operation during ascent to reach orbit. The company's vision is to develop a fully reusable spaceplane that takes off like a conventional aircraft in airbreathing mode, reaches speeds above Mach 5, and then transitions to rocket mode to exit the atmosphere.
